Inserting a Missing or Mismatched Graphic
Sometimes you may be trying to insert a graphic from the workspace definition file (WDF), but the file is missing, or the file name or dimensions do not match those specified in the WDF. If so, the Add-In cannot insert the original graphic image into the Documaker document.
Note | You can store graphic files under separate graphic subfolders for each WDF. For details, see Location of graphic files. |
Missing or Mismatched Graphic File
The Add-In will not insert the original graphic image if the graphic file is not in the Graphics folder that has been entered in the Add-In Options, Resources tab (see The Options Dialog: Resources Tab).
For example, you are trying to insert a graphic element named signature
that is associated with an image filed named signature.jpg
. If the signature.jpg
file is missing from the Graphics folder on your system, or has a different name, such as signature2.jpg, then the Add-In cannot insert the actual image into a Documaker document.
Instead, a dialog appears indicating that the file for this graphic could not be found in the Graphics folder, and asking you if you want to insert the graphic anyway.
Mismatched Dimensions
The Add-In will be unable to insert the original graphic image if the dimensions of the graphic file do not match the dimensions of the graphic resource in the workspace definition file, as listed in the graphic properties Description in inches
For example, if the graphic resource you are trying to insert is listed as 1” x 2.1”, but the actual dimensions of the graphic file on your system are 1” x 2”, then the Add-In cannot insert the actual image into a Documaker document.
A dialog appears indicating that the file for this graphic has a different size than the selected graphic defined in the Workspace, and asking you if you want to insert the graphic anyway.
Inserting a Placeholder Image
In either of these cases, whether the file is missing, or the dimensions do no match, you will be asked you if you want to insert the image anyway.
- To insert the image, click Yes.
A placeholder or “default” graphic image is inserted into a Documaker document using the dimensions specified in the WDF, for example:
- To cancel the insertion, click No.
No graphic is inserted, and you are returned to the Documaker document.
Configuring the Add-In to Automatically Insert a Placeholder Graphic
As described in the previous section, if the Add-In cannot find the graphic file you want to insert, or the name does not match, a dialog appears asking if you want to insert the image anyway.
This dialog also contains the following check-box:
Always insert if the graphic file can't be found.
You can use this checkbox to configure whether this dialog appears the next time that the Add-In cannot find the graphic you want to insert, as follows:
- To automatically insert the placeholder image when the Add-In cannot find the graphic file, select Always insert if the graphic file can't be found.
The next time you try to insert a workspace definition file graphic that the Add-In cannot find the graphic for, this dialog will not appear. The placeholder graphic will be automatically inserted without prompting you first.
Please note:
- When you close Word and open it again, this selection will be cleared, and you will again be prompted if a graphic file is missing.
- This check box selection is active regardless of whether you select Yes or No when choosing to insert the graphic.
- To always be prompted to confirm whether you want to insert a placeholder image when the Add-In cannot find the graphic, do not select Always insert if the graphic file can't be found.
The next time you try to insert a workspace definition file graphic that the Add-In cannot find a match for, you will again be prompted to insert it.
